KISS 106.1 was the sponsor for this Private Performance. The only way to go was to win tickets from the station and Monday night I was lucky enough to be caller #25.

VIP

So the concert was inside JBL Theater which is inside of the Experience Music Project on the Seattle Center grounds. I get to EMP around 4pm and I check it out for a little bit. Its a pretty cool place. Once KISS got their stuff set up, I was kickin' it around there till there was enough to form a line. When sittin' there a dude named Dan walks by to use the bathroom and sees the table and the whole Vanessa Carlton thing and he was a big fan and wanted to know what was going on. Turns out he's from California passing thru on a road trip with a friend on their way to Vancouver. The KISS people stick to the rule and they cant get in unless they were on the list. Since none of my friends like pop music, I was going solo, so I told the dude he could go as my "guest" if he wanted. It was all good but he'd have to get someone else to do the same thing for his friend. So the line forms around the building outside. They finally find someone else to take the friend as a guest. The doors open around 6pm (was supposed to be 5:30), and I sign in, and get the 2 passes, give one to Dan, and we go into the theater. This was like a real movie theater with riser seating and everything. No one sat in the front row, the second row was for radio station people and their friends, so we got right into the third row just right of the center which was PERFECT.

We wait about 20-30 minutes and then the british boyband A1 comes out. They're a lot like BBMak. Sorta play their own music but still a boyband. They played something like 4 or 5 songs for about 18 minutes. I only knew their first single "Caught In The Middle" (decent tune worth downloading).

Then the radio station DJ's kill time by telling bad jokes and bad singing & dancing (literally) until Vanessa came out! She sat down and started playing right out pretty much. The totally acoustic set with just her and the grand piano started with "Wanted". Then she did "Ordinary Day", followed by "Rinse". Then she said she wasn't used to doing the next song that much and she sang "Swindler" (which ain't on the album of course). Next she said she would try and do 1000 miles without sounding like a lounge act unlike the rest of her songs. Kinda funny. So she began playing "A Thousand Miles" and of course that was probably the audience favorite. Nearly to the end she sang "Twilight". After which she said she only had about 30 seconds left to her voice and then sang "Red Ditty" which is just a short lil song, good way to close the show!

After she left the stage the DJ's came back up and said she would be signing autographs in the main lobby, so then there was a mad dash out of the theater to the main lobby. Dan ran ahead of nearly everyone so once I got up there, I was like "you owe me" so I got to cut in line and get nearly to the beginning of the autograph line. There's always a catch tho. Because of the number of people we had the choice of either getting a picture with her or something signed. NOT both damnit. Since I got an autographes pic from the street team I opted for the picture with Vanessa. She was so beautiful and sweet there in person.
