Federal Way Boys & Girls Club...
DID YOU KNOW?
- The Club was founded in 1959 and housed in school district sites until 1978. The current 14,000 square foot facility was opened in 1978, enlarged in 1985 and remodeled in 1993-94.
- With just four full time and three permanent part time employees, the Club is an exceptionally efficient non profit that utilizes more than 600 volunteers annually.
- The Club operates as an independent and autonomous fiscal unit. 86% of the Club’s budget is self raised through affordable dues and fees (scholarships available for any child), contributions, grants, and special events. The remaining 14% is generously provided by the United Way of King County.
- A variety of programs involve children and youth in grades 1-12 including: teen trips, games room, drop in, basketball, summer day camp, gymnastics, art classes, homework assistance, baseball, soccer, judo, summer teen camp, and special events. During our busiest season, more than 500 kids a day come through the facility and program.
- The Club operates a 20 station computer lab at our Mirror Lake extension site, running weekly during the school year and daily all summer long.
- The new program extension site in Auburn opened March 1, 1999 as a collaborative program with the King County Housing Authority. This site serves low income children, including kids newly arrived from Somalia and the Ukraine. Jon Evans is the Unit Director.
- Approximately 15% of our members receive some form of assistance including free-or-reduced lunch, and Boys and Girls Club scholarships. Approximately 25% of our kids come from one parent families.
- Cost of services per child per year is roughly $127. Annual membership is $15, reduced is $10 and scholarshipped is $0. Your support makes our services possible.
