3 Doors Down
Key Arena - Seattle, WA - July 11, 2001

This story begins over a month ago. One week before tickets went on sale, 107.7 The End was doing a radio contest to win tickets throughout the week. I tried each and every time only to be turned away by being caller #3 or caller #5 but never caller #7 which was the magic number. But the last day of the contest, Friday, one hour before tickets went on sale, I was caller #2, I called back and I was #7! So I was lucky enough to win free tickets to the show and saved myself and my friend 60 some dollars. That was quite nice.

The show started at 7:30 with Tantric taking the stage. I've seen them once before in a small club and this was just as good of a show, only a shorter set list.

They opened with "Revillusion" which got the crowd pumped. Then came the song for all the weed smokers cause it makes you "Paranoid". Then came the song for all the "stupid fuckers out there" which of course is "Astounded". Then the tone dropped a bit for "Mourning" which is a nice softer song. Towards the end of it, there is a long pause after which Hugo does a line of the song a capella and then the song continues on. Then "Live Your Life" was played, and they ended the night with a song everyone knew: "Breakdown".

Like I said, they did an excellent show, but it was just a lot shorter than I would have liked. They were only on stage for a total of about 30 minutes.

Which brings us to Lifehouse. They are a great band in their own right, but they did not belong on this tour. They belong opening for more pop/alt bands like Matchbox Twenty. For this tour, Tantric complimented 3 Doors Down's style, but Lifehouse was out of place.

They opened their set with "Cling And Clatter" which led into a really good instrumental solos. Next came "Somebody Else's Song" which I really liked. And then played "Unknown". After that Jason talked to the audience for a second, got them hyped, said that he once lived around Seattle but are now based in California. After all that they played the song "Quasimodo" and then "Only One". After that they slowed it down by playing a balled which I think was "Somewhere In Between" but I'm not 100% sure. But after that they played "Hanging By A Moment" with a good intro. Then "Sick Cycle Carousel" and they closed the set with "Everything" which was real slow and soft... which I did not like how they ended with a song like that. Going into see 3 Doors Down next I wanted for them to end on a better note than a ballad.

Brad Arnold And at 9:30 with some cool lighting effects (you'd have to see to understand) 3 Doors Down made their appearance. They opened the show with "Duck and Run" which was a perfect choice in my opinion. Next came "By My Side" and then once "Kryptonite" came on the crowd went nuts. Brad had the crowd sing one of the chorus' and was really good. Then they performed a new song called "When I'm Gone" which I thought was amazing! Then they played "Down Poison" which was a good high energy song. Then Brad asked the audience if they'd mind if they did an acoustic song for them. So they did a nice acoustic version of "Be Like That" at which time all the lighters came out. After that song, they did another new one Brad said was about all the violence out there or something along those lines and did a song called "Dangerous Game". Towards the end of it, they brought out another drum kit, and Brad did some amazing drumming for the song. It was a nice touch! Then they played "Life of My Own". Then Brad had everyone on the main floor to jump while they performed what I think is a new song called "Set Me Free" but I'm not sure of that title. Then they did another new song which was really good called "This Time". The following song Brad said was for all those who are over worked and under paid and they played "Not Enough". Then they closed the set with "Better Life" and left the stage.

All I was saying was "oh hell no!" They were not leaving without playing my favorite song. After a minute of course they came out for the encore and played "Smack" which was cool. Then Hugo from Tantric came out on stage and together they sang "LOSER"! It was perfect! Everyone got on their feet for it and was by far the best song of the night.

And then sadly the show was over with. I do wish they had played "So I Need You" but I suppose sacrifices can be made.

Not bad for a free concert.
